Evangelist Serena D. Ford, a powerhouse in gospel music and ministry, has dedicated her life to spreading the message of faith through song and service. Born on July 1, 1958, in Chester, Pennsylvania, she was raised in a devout Christian household as the daughter of Bishop Boston and Evangelist Willa Ford. Surrounded by a family deeply rooted in ministry, including her siblings Pastor Sherry Ford-Scales and Pastor David Ford, Serena’s spiritual and musical journey began at an early age. By 13, she was already a skilled keyboardist, playing for St. James UAME Church under the late Rev. Lester Gordy, and soon expanded her reach, performing in over 20 churches across multiple states. Her passion and anointing in music set the stage for a career that would impact countless lives.
Under the mentorship of the late Rev. Ernest Davis Jr., one of the founders of the Wilmington/Chester Mass Choir, Evangelist Ford honed her vocal and musical abilities. She became widely recognized for leading the song When All God’s Children Get Together and recorded two albums with the renowned choir. Her discography expanded with the release of Lord Send Your Peace to the Middle East in 1991 and Strange Things Happen in the Presence of the Lord in 2004, both produced by Jim Bryant and Tony Homer. Her collaborations span some of gospel music’s most influential figures, including The Gabriel Hardeman Delegation, Rev. Aaron Martin, and the late Rev. Isaac Douglas. She also organized The Serena Ford Recording Choir, which provided backup vocals for Jay Caldwell & The Gospel Ambassadors’ live DVD Leaving Jericho.

As a songwriter, Evangelist Ford has left an indelible mark on the gospel music scene. Her compositions have been performed by choirs such as the Delaware Baptist State Convention Choir, the Philadelphia Mass Choir, and the University of Delaware Gospel Choir. Her song The Holy Ghost Is Moving gained national recognition, recorded by gospel legends like Dorothy Norwood & The Gospel Caravans in 2006, Stellar Award winner Lonnie Hunter & Structure in 2010, and the Gospel Music Workshop of America Mass Choir in 2011. She was invited to teach her compositions at prestigious conventions, including the Thomas Dorsey Convention and the Gospel Music Workshop of America, where she shared her music with national mass choirs in Atlanta, Tampa, and Washington, D.C. In 2014, gospel artist Ami Rushes included her song It’s Alright, It’s Okay on an album produced by Kirk Carr.
Beyond her music career, Evangelist Ford is a dedicated prayer intercessor, workshop clinician, and poet, using every facet of her talent to inspire and uplift. Whether performing on stage, ministering in churches, or composing soul-stirring songs, her mission remains unwavering—to glorify God and bring healing through gospel music. Her journey, marked by faith, perseverance, and an unshakable commitment to ministry, continues to touch lives across generations.
